How To Get Accurate Ring Size

Overview

The correct size for your ring ensures that it will be a snug and comfortable fit every time. A ring that is too small can be overly uncomfortable and evening cause your finger to swell. A ring that is too big can often offset the symmetry of the ring and your finger, which can leave an unprofessional impression, or simply fall off your finger entirely. Having the correct ring size will make you and your fingers happy as well as comfortable.

Know Your Measurement System

Ring size measurements are different depending on the country you are in.

  • United States & Canada: Measured numerically with half sizes also available. For example, 3 is the smallest size with a total circumference of 1.40 centimeters (cm).
  • United Kingdom & Australia: Measured in letters such as: K, M, and O
  • Europe: Measured by the total circumference of the finger in millimeters (mm).

How To Measure

This method involves using a piece of string or a strip of paper.

  1. Cut a thin strip of string or paper about 4-6 inches long.
  2. Wrap the string or paper around the base of your finger, where you plan to wear the ring.
  3. Mark the point where the string or paper overlaps.
  4. Lay the string flat and measure the length with a ruler (in millimeters).
  5. Use a ring size conversion chart like the below to match your measurement to the corresponding ring size.
